Marie Rouser – Dance Dept.

Marie graduated from Belhaven College, now Belhaven University, in Jackson, Mississippi in May 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Dance. Ever since she began dancing at the age of 9 years, Marie has had a passion for using dance to glorify God and loves teaching others to do the same. She owned a Christian dance studio for 7 years, but now teaches here at Arts Alive. Marie’s hope and prayer is that her classes will instill in the students a love for dance and a more intense desire to serve Christ with their gifts and talents.

Dana Culberson- Dance Dept (Foundation Clogging, Advanced Clogging)

     Ms. Dana teaches all Clogging classes, along with Foundation Jazz, Foundation Tap, & Character.  Dana first learned to clog 14 years ago at Arts Alive.  She has clogged with the Burlington Carousel Cloggers for five years, performed at various events, and competed in competitions held at the NC State Fair.  She lives in Gibsonville with her husband John and two children, Caleb and Laney.  Dana loves to glorify the Lord through dance and being a part of the Arts Alive family!


Elizabeth Porter, Dance Department (Core II Ballet, Pre-Pointe)

     Elizabeth Joy Porter is an enthusiastic teacher who is dedicated to pursuing God.  She is currently studying at Guilford Technical Community College in their dental hygienist program.  She has studied the art of dance at Arts Alive since she was five years old and has taken classes in Ballet, Pointe, Modern, and Liturgical.  Her biggest passion is dancing and working with kids.  One of her dreams was to become a professional dancer and she is excited to have this opportunity to teach and further explore the art of dance this year at Arts Alive.

Nicole Troxler, Dance Department (Core Pointe, Advanced Pointe, Core Repertoire, Advanced Repertoire)

     Nicole Troxler is a Burlington native who will be beginning her 17th year at Arts Alive this fall.  She is married to Jeremy Troxler and has 5 wonderful children; Noah, Nathan, Elijah, LilyAnn, and Sarai.  She studied dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  Her concentration included ballet, modern, and choreography.  Nicole also had the opportunity to study under Jane Wellford of Elon University (one of the forerunners for liturgical dance on the Eastern seaboard). She also studied modern technique under Jan Van Dyke of the Gamble-Van Dyke dance company.  Nicole enjoyed being a member of Moving Liturgy dance company for several years.  After God and family, dance has been her love and choreography her passion since she was a little girl.  She loves teaching young women how to worship God through dance.  Nicole looks forward to beginning a new repertoire class with the Pointe dancers this year to develop their choreography and performance skills.

Dance Department (Creative Movement, Ballet/Jazz II, Advanced Liturgical, Advanced Modern & Rejoice Dance Ministry Director

     Heather Zachary has come full circle at Arts Alive.  She is a former homeschooled student and original member of Rejoice Dance Ministry, which was formed in 1993.  She has been teaching at many different studios, churches, and workshops throughout the area since 1999.  Her choreography has won awards and been selected for dance showcases throughout the triad.  For the past six and a half years, she has been blessed to be a part of Arts Alive and desires to continue our mission in sharing the gospel through dance.  Heather lives in Snow Camp with her husband Jeremy and two sons, Zeb and Elias.

Anna Grooms, (Dance)

Anna Grooms is passionate about dance and teaching. She has taken classes at Arts Alive for the past five years and has been a member of Rejoice! Dance Ministry for two years. Anna is currently a senior at Southern Alamance High School and is actively involved in the dance program there as well. She also leads Trinity Worship Center’s dance ministry where she works with beginning dancers to grow in their walk with God and give them performance opportunities for events at the church such as the Easter and Christmas cantatas. She hopes to attend a four-year university after high school and minor in dance education.  Anna is looking forward to an opportunity to share her knowledge and style of dance with Arts Alive students this year.

 Huey Ivey

Ivey Huey Archer, Theatre Department

     Ivey Huey is a graduate from Elon University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Studies.  This is her second year with Arts Alive and she is so excited for the opportunity to work with such dedicated students for another year.  Ivey is passionate about the theatre and its ability to educate and encourage.  Her love for the stage is second to her adoration for teaching and working with teenagers.  Her credits include director of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Centre Stage on Main), Reader’s Theatre: Vintage Radio and the Velveteen Rabbit (Arts Alive), and The Gift of the Magi (Arts Alive).  Assistant Directing credits include The Jungle Book (Centre Stage on Main).  Design credits include Pride and Prejudice (Elon University, Wig/Makeup Design) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Elon University, Hair/Makeup Design).  Acting Credits include Guys and Dolls (Centre Stage on Main, Adelaide) and Annie (Centre Stage on Main, Ms. Hannigan).

Julie Brown, Visual Art Department

     Julie Brown has always had a passion for creating and teaching.  In 2012, she graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Art Education.  Julie loves painting, drawing, woodcarving, sculpting, and, most of all, sharing her passion for creativity with others.  She has been a part of Arts Alive for many years as a student but is very excited to begin her second year as an art instructor.  It is her deepest desire to glorify God with her abilities and encourage others to do the same.

Geoff Gentry, Office

Geoff Gentry has a degree in communications from Elon. He worked for New Directions International (now Feed-the-Hunger) for several years doing video and computer work. He currently serves as a Data Manager for the Chapel Hill Carrboro City School System. Serving and helping are gifts the Lord has given him. He enjoys being behind the scenes in the background and supporting. These gifts have been cultivated and helped along the way from serving with his parents at church growing up, serving in his church (running sound and computers) and at Arts Alive. Geoff has served behind the scenes at Arts Alive since 1999. He has enjoyed running sound, running lights, and helping backstage for dance and theater productions for many years. Now you will also find him serving in the office.
